VEGEMITE spreads are rich in Vitamin B, but why is that so good?
Vitamin B is made up of no single nutrient, but rather a diverse group of compounds that include thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pantothenic acid (B5), pyridoxine (B6), folate (B9) and more. These essential nutrients are widely distributed in foods, but it’s yeast and liver that top the list as containing the richest sources – and VEGEMITE spreads are made from concentrated yeast extract.
The nutrients within Vitamin B are all water soluble – unlike Vitamin E or A that are kept in the liver or body fat reserves – and are excreted in our urine, along with any excess. That’s why it’s so important to replenish your body with a regular supply of B vitamins.
One of the most important things Vitamin B does is convert energy within the body. Without this element, carbohydrates, proteins and fats you eat remain within your body, rather than being converted into energy to keep you going throughout the day.
But that’s not the sole purpose of B vitamins either – they also assist with blood circulation and proper nerve function, as well as building up the body’s natural defence system. In children, B vitamins are essential for growth and development.
