1991In 1991 the world was treated to a new Vegemite commercial, this one shot on Super-8 to achieve a home movie feel. The soundtrack was the by now ubiquitous "Happy Little Vegemite" jingle. The importance of Vegemite's nutritional benefit to growing children was the message of the commercial.Also, 1991 saw the first major change in Vegemite's packaging: yellow tamper-evident lids replaced the traditional metal ones, ensuring that Vegemite reaches consumers exactly the way it was prepared in the factory. | ![]() 1991 |
| Meanwhile, Vegemite lovers of all ages got a real treat when a Vegemite Exhibition was staged at Sydney's Powerhouse Museum. Held in July during the school holidays, the display featured original jars and promotional material dating all the way back to Vegemite's birth in 1922. Interestingly, the majority of the early jars used in the Exhibition came from consumers following a national search for the historical Vegemite memorabilia. Save those old Vegemite jars: they may be valuable someday.

1993Vegemite turns 70 and is now known to millions and millions of Australians. Happy Birthday Vegemite!1994In 1994 the introduction of the Vegemite Breakfast Campaign saw outdoor and transit advertising being used to promote Vegemite. A large bus was converted into a toaster on wheels and used to sample Vegemite on toast for breakfast!19961996 was an unusual year for Vegemite in that for the first time it was packaged in a tube. The Vegemite tube was released in November as a special promotional item to coincide with the start of the peak travel period.Through seven and a half decades, four generations and heaps of great memories, Vegemite has come to occupy a special place in the hearts of all Australians. We now go through 22 millions jars a year, and most of Australian pantries contain a jar of Australia's favourite spread. It could be argued that nothing is more Australian than Vegemite. The Happy Little Vegemites Awards were launched and primary schools all across Australia were invited to participate. The awards were Vegemite's way of giving back to the community by making a significant contribution to the growth and educational development of young Australians. Each school was asked to perform its own version of the legendary Happy Little Vegemites song. Over 900 schools responded and the judges were hard pressed to pick a winner from the multitude of talented entries. The National Winner was Emmanuel College in Queensland, which received the grand prize of $75,000. A new Vegemite television commercial features on national television with a new soundtrack; the Happy Little Vegemites song is given a contemporary feel. |
1999Kraft launched Vegemite snack abouts"Snack abouts" was created for children and adults so that people could snack on Vegemite anywhere, anytime. With four buttery crispbreads in every pack and a handy red stick for spreading, Vegemite snack abouts are a popular addition to Aussie kids’ lunchboxes. | Vegemite on toast, a great way to start the day (through a Woolworths promotion) during 1999 we gave away 500 Vegemite Toasters! The promotion lasted for 6 weeks and all the toasters were snapped up in a hurry.
